310DanceSteps

An informal guide developed and maintained by dance students. After lessons and practice, we write down the man's and woman's steps we learned, with some extra emphasis on the man's role as leader. We encourage viewers to e-mail us their corrections, improvements and new step descriptions: ghoxie@cox.net or ehoxie@cox.net.

Click on a dance name for fairly detailed descriptions of the Man's and the Woman's movements for each dance step. These are intended as reminders, not lessons; if you haven't taken a lesson covering a step, don't expect to be able to learn the step from these descriptions:
Bolero
Cha-Cha
Foxtrot
Mambo
Nightclub Two-Step
Rumba
Swing - East Coast
Swing - West Coast
Tango - American
Tango - Argentine
Waltz

For sequences of steps that flow nicely, click on Mini-Routines for 15 to 45 second long "routines" to help leaders get through a complete song.

Common Steps - Steps that work in more than one type of dance, such as the Spiral.
